Most people are born with an inclination towards creativity and art. However, it takes guidance and practice to hone skills that help in developing this talent. As a parent, it is your duty to recognise your child’s interest and provide them the opportunity to work towards it. Encouraging your child at a young age by sending them for art classes or taking them to visit museums can be very fruitful for you as well as for them. Even if your child does not have a very strong inclination towards the arts, sending them for art classes can help them develop better ideas and learn new things. Our art classes are designed in such a manner that they cater to the children’s need for guidance and develop their interest in the arts further.
A Visit to National Gallery Singapore
We recently organized a trip to the National Gallery for our students. The gallery had an ongoing exhibition titled ‘Art Playscape’ which consisted of a number of interactive exhibits and a large play area. We knew that the exhibition would be thoroughly enjoyed by the children and would also be inspiring for them and that is why we planned this trip.
The play area inside the exhibit was an amazing place for the children to explore, learn and have fun. It was themed around the idea of entering into a painting. The story that inspired this exhibit was based on a fish called Fynn and his friends on their quest into the forest. Fynn liked to go on adventures to different places. Once, he went into a forest and started living there for some time. He made lots of new friends and really enjoyed living there only to realize that his new home was in danger. He and his friends then decide to do something about it. The little creatures in the tale get together and try to save their home from destruction. Our children also had the chance to experience the forest and go on a journey of their own through the maze and across the river. There was also a beautiful tree-house which instantly became their favorite spot. This experience combined with the tale also taught the children about courage, survival and friendship.
Sandra Lee
The artist that created this beautiful adventure is Sandra Lee, a travelling artist. The story of Fynn is actually quite similar to the artist’s story. Sandra has spent 30 years of her life travelling from one inspiring destination to another. According to her, home is where one can connect to with nature and make new memories.
Sandra Lee has exhibited at several solo exhibitions as well as group exhibitions in and out of Singapore. Her artwork is always full of enthusiasm and energy. She has a talent for instantly bringing objects and creatures to life with just a single brush stroke. She is truly and exceptional artist and taking the children to view her exhibition was definitely a great idea. The best about the entire exhibit was that children were learning new and important things, all while playing and having fun.
Importance of Art Classes for Children
Art is a very important aspect of a child’s life. It is a mode of expression and helps instill several good qualities like patience and creativity in the child’s demeanor. Art classes are important for the future of students. It helps them learn more about themselves and sharpen their minds. In art classes, children are also introduced to lots of new techniques and ideas. They are able to visualize things better and express their imagination on paper. In order to be a happy and fun-loving adults, the children should definitely be taught to be expressive and hang on to their imaginations. Art can also help children understand the world better, and as the future of the world depends on these young minds, art classes must be a part of their schedule.
Academic subjects like math and English might teach children very important lessons, however, these classes cannot influence children the way art classes can. Art can really help to develop a child’s mind in a more expanded or non conventional way. They learn to become innovative and ingenious, qualities which can help them in any career in the future. Art can also encourage a child to be confident and outgoing. The sense of creating something with your own hands makes adults happy and excited too. Imagine how much happiness a child would receive with this experience! As mentioned before, the most important reason for you to send your children for art classes is so that he can learn to be expressive and emotional. Art is used for therapy across the globe. There are obviously some very important powers that the world of colors and shapes has and why should you not expose your child to this world?
Arts provides children with visual learning. Today, our little children know how to use a smartphone better than us. This is not necessarily a horrible thing. It simply means that before they can learn to read, they begin understanding things with the help of visual information. That is also exactly what artistic skills do for our children. Drawing helps them to develop their visual learning skills. Parents should be familiar with the fact that children in today’s world are learning more from graphic sources than anywhere else. It is important for them to know more about the world around them instead of sitting in classes and cramming alphabets and numbers. Art can help them develop more interest in the outside world and mold their outlook.
Our trip to the National Gallery proved to be very successful. The children received some valuable lessons and were also exposed to a number of new ideas. We saw a great difference in their works after the visit. Their artworks clearly show how much they were inspired and they still reminiscence the trip with big smiles on their faces.
